Natural curiosities

Mellomrommet Gallery, 2022

With watercolor and ink, Maria creates art in an abstract style that suggests something recognizable and alive. The result is sensual and poetic expressions with references to nature.

Maria uses mixed media on paper, including colored ink, watercolor, and charcoal. She works intuitively based on hand sketches. Forming patterns and layer structures are typical of her work.

The exhibition's title is inspired by the book "The Cabinet of Natural Curiosities," a catalog of species from the plant and animal world, illustrated by the collector and zoologist Albertus Seba between 1734 and 1765.
